Klarna Debit Risk (formerly Sofort)

Accept Klarna Debit Risk (formerly Sofort) on Recurly via Adyen for initial subscription payments in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium — available to existing Sofort merchants only.

Sofort has been deprecated Sofort migrated to Klarna Debit Risk on September 30, 2024. Ensure you are passing the customer's country in your Recurly.js integration — no other changes are required. Only merchants with existing Sofort accounts on Adyen can continue to use this product. New merchant sign-ups are not supported.
Klarna Debit Risk (formerly Sofort) is a bank-based payment method for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium, supporting EUR, CHF, and GBP transactions. It handles initial subscription payments while recurring renewals are managed through SEPA Direct Debit. Available to existing Sofort merchants on Adyen only.

Prerequisites

  • An existing Sofort account on Adyen — new merchant sign-ups are not supported.
  • SEPA Direct Debit configured for recurring payments, with the necessary currencies enabled in both Recurly and Adyen.

Limitations

  • No free trials — Klarna Debit Risk cannot be used for free trials. Use SEPA Direct Debit for trial scenarios instead.
  • Not available on Recurly Checkout or Hosted Payment Pages.
  • See the Adyen gateway limitations for additional restrictions.
