Key details

General filters (top left corner)

  • Invoice date range: Specify the time period of invoices to review.
  • Industry: Switch between industries to review benchmark information. Defaults to your configured industry.

Renewal invoice benchmarks

Renewal Invoice Benchmarks give you insight into the performance of your renewal invoices — both those that are paid successfully and those that fail on the first transaction attempt.

Your ranking is shown as a percentile, comparing your performance to peers in your industry. Track your percentile trend over time to see how your renewal strategy performs relative to industry standards.

Renewal invoice paid rate calculation

This calculation shows the percentage of renewal invoices created within a period that are successfully paid, out of the total number of renewal invoices issued.

  • Example: In April, if 1,000 renewal invoices are issued and 750 are paid, the initial paid rate is 75%. If another 150 invoices are settled through dunning over the following two weeks, the revised paid rate reaches 90%.

Calculations are based on the invoice creation date, to keep results consistent.

Renewal decline rate calculation

This calculation shows the percentage of renewal invoices that aren't successfully paid on the first attempt.

  • Initial transactions: The first attempt to process payment on an invoice — the interaction this metric focuses on.
  • Why we focus on the first transaction: It keeps the comparison fair across businesses, regardless of how aggressively they retry failed payments.

The evaluation period is based on the date of the invoice's initial transaction. Your position is shown as a percentile within your industry — track it over time to see how your renewal process compares and evolves.

FAQs

What is a renewal invoice?

A renewal invoice is an invoice issued as part of a subscription's regular renewal process. This includes invoices generated at set intervals after the initial sign-up, or the first invoice after a trial period. Renewal invoices represent the recurring billing side of a subscription, excluding the initial acquisition or trial conversion invoices.
