Pricing & plans 201: Advanced
You've built the foundation. This path goes deeper — into the pricing architectures that mature subscription businesses use to segment markets, structure enterprise billing, charge for real-world usage, and measure what's actually driving revenue.

What this path covers
Pricing & Plans 101 covered the core configuration: plans, add-ons, currencies, pricing models, trials, and analytics. This path assumes that foundation is in place and builds on it. Each page focuses on a specific capability that becomes relevant as a subscription business grows — from serving multiple customer segments without duplicating plans, to billing enterprise accounts under a unified structure, to measuring performance beyond the built-in dashboards.
Work through in order for the most complete picture, or go directly to the topic most relevant to your current situation.
This path builds directly on plans, add-ons, pricing models, currencies, and trials. If you haven't covered those yet, start with Pricing & Plans 101 first — the 201 configurations assume those foundations are already in place.
Account Hierarchy, Invoice Rollup, and Analytics Explore may not be included in Starter or Pro plans. Contact Recurly Sales to confirm eligibility for your plan. Usage billing requires an API integration. Invoice Rollup also requires Calendar Billing and must be enabled by Recurly Support. These are flagged on the relevant pages so you know what to plan for before diving in.
Path pages
Price segmentation
Charge different prices to different subscriber segments — by geography, cohort, or acquisition channel — using a single plan instead of duplicate configurations.
Account hierarchy
Structure parent and child accounts for B2B and enterprise customers — with per-child billing responsibility, consolidated invoicing via Invoice Rollup, and full API visibility.
Usage billing
Configure metered billing that charges subscribers for what they actually consume — API calls, messages, storage — logged via the Recurly API and billed in arrears at the end of each billing cycle.
Advanced pricing models
Build hybrid pricing architectures that combine a base subscription with usage, quantity-based, or one-time charges on a single invoice — and explore prepaid account balance billing, where customers pay upfront and draw down their balance over time.
Advanced currency
Go beyond basic multi-currency setup — configure per-currency gateway routing, handle 3DS/SCA compliance for European markets, and build region-aware dunning logic for different payment failure patterns.
Advanced analytics
Move beyond built-in dashboards into subscriptions exports, Analytics Explore, and external BI integrations — and understand how to use your Recurly data to inform pricing decisions.
