Plan price increase

When to raise prices, how to decide, how to communicate it — and how to know if it worked.

What is a plan price increase?

In Recurly, a Plan is the pricing template all subscriptions are built from. Updating a plan's price takes effect for new subscribers immediately — existing subscribers stay at their current price until you explicitly migrate them. This path covers the strategy behind a price increase: when it makes sense, what to decide before you act, how to communicate it, and how to measure whether it worked. The UI steps and API mechanics are in Recurly Docs, linked throughout.

Updating the plan price alone is not enough

Existing subscribers will not automatically move to the new price. They need to be explicitly migrated — either via API script or individual manual edit — otherwise they continue renewing at the old amount indefinitely.
