Two-factor authentication
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security by requiring a verification code in addition to your password. 2FA applies across all Recurly sites associated with your email address — enabling or disabling it affects all connected sites.
Limitations
- 2FA doesn't replace the need for a strong, unique password and secure account practices
- You're responsible for maintaining access to your chosen verification method (Authenticator App, SMS, or Email)
- If you lose access to your verification method, you may be unable to log in until access is restored
- Disabling 2FA removes it from all Recurly sites connected to your account
Recurly supports three 2FA methods — you can enable multiple at once for flexibility during login. The Authenticator App and Email are recommended over SMS due to known SMS security weaknesses.
Enable 2FA

Authenticator App
Recurly supports Twilio Authy, Okta Verify, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator, and other TOTP-compatible apps.

Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, or enter the provided code manually. The app generates a one-time code — enter it in Recurly to complete setup.
SMS
Enter a mobile phone number capable of receiving SMS messages. A verification code is sent to that number — enter it in the verification field to complete setup.
Email
A verification code is sent to the email address on your Recurly account. Enter it in the verification field to complete setup.
Set a default 2FA method
If you have multiple 2FA methods configured, you can choose which one is selected by default at login.
Disable 2FA
Disable a single method
Disable all 2FA methods

Site Admins can disable 2FA for individual users:
Troubleshooting 2FA
Lost mobile device
If you can't access the device that receives your authentication codes:
- Enable multiple 2FA methods before this happens — if you have both Authenticator App and Email configured, you can still log in via Email, then reconfigure the Authenticator App for a new device.
- Check your authenticator app's documentation — many apps provide account restoration options or support alternative devices.
- Contact your site administrator — they can disable 2FA on your account, allowing login with just your password.
- Contact [email protected] — Recurly Support can also disable 2FA on your account.
General tips
- If authentication fails repeatedly, try syncing your phone's clock with your mobile provider.
- If you're not receiving SMS codes, double-check that your phone number was entered correctly.
- When entering a code, don't include spaces between the digits.
