Chase Paymentech Orbital
Connect Chase Paymentech Orbital (Salem Platform) to Recurly to process credit card, Google Pay, and China UnionPay transactions across a wide range of currencies.
Limitations
- Salem/Stratus platform only — Recurly only supports Chase Paymentech Orbital on the Salem (Stratus) platform. Tampa merchant accounts are not supported.
- No lifecycle or post-auth webhooks — Recurly does not support lifecycle or post-auth webhooks from Chase. If you're using gateway-level fraud review systems or making transaction actions directly at the gateway, Recurly and Chase can fall out of sync. Always capture, void, and process refunds from Recurly rather than directly in the gateway.
- Ambiguous C5 response code — Chase's C5 / Over Frequency Limit code can mean two different things. Check the gateway message to determine the cause: for most card brands it indicates an over-frequency limit, but for Mastercard it may indicate that 3DS / SCA is required.

China UnionPay
Recurly supports China UnionPay through the Chase Orbital gateway. To enable it, first contact Chase Support to activate China UnionPay at the gateway level on your Chase Orbital instance. Once it's enabled as an accepted card brand in Chase, you can select it as an accepted card type in your Chase Orbital gateway settings in Recurly.
Integrating Chase Paymentech Orbital with Recurly
Step 1: Confirm your Chase platform
Verify that your merchant account is on the Chase Paymentech Orbital, Salem Platform. Recurly supports integration only with the Salem Platform through the Orbital Gateway front end. A direct Salem processing MID is not sufficient, and Tampa platform accounts are not supported.
Step 2: Configure Chase
Contact Chase Paymentech Support and request that your account be configured to permit connections from Recurly, a Certified Orbital Submitter on the Salem Platform.
- If Chase asks for Recurly's submitter ID, provide the ID found in the Chase Orbital gateway setup guide.
- If Chase requires specific IP addresses used by Recurly for transaction routing, provide the IPs found in the IP allowlist.
Step 3: Obtain Chase credentials
Request the following credentials from Chase — you'll need them to link Recurly to your gateway:
- Merchant Account ID
- Username
- Password
Step 4: Add the Chase gateway in Recurly

Step 5: Enable card types and currencies
In the Chase Orbital gateway configuration in Recurly, select the card brands and currencies you want to support. To support Google Pay, select it under Alternative Payment Methods.
For each additional currency, enter the Merchant ID associated with that currency under Merchant IDs for Selected Currencies in the Accepted Currencies section.

Step 6: Mark the gateway as enabled
Set the gateway status to Enabled for New Transactions to activate it and begin processing transactions.
Step 7: Configure China UnionPay (if applicable)
If you want to accept China UnionPay, contact Chase Support to enable it at the gateway level first. Once enabled in Chase, select it as an accepted card type in your Chase Orbital gateway settings in Recurly.
Step 8: Configure Zero Dollar Authorizations (optional)
Enable Zero Dollar Authorizations (ZDA) where possible — but only after confirming with Chase that your merchant account supports them. Do not enable ZDA in Recurly if your gateway cannot support it.
Once Chase confirms ZDA support, enable it in your Recurly gateway settings for each supported card type.
Step 9: MOTO transaction type settings
Step 10: Partial AVS validation (optional)
Partial AVS validation automatically rejects (voids) transactions where the Address Verification code from Chase is not a full match — protecting against both entry errors and potential fraud.
This setting only takes effect if you have also enabled the Address Verification Check in Payment Settings. The standard Address Verification Check alone rejects transactions only on a full mismatch (both address and zip code fail). Partial AVS validation adds a stricter layer on top of that. Transactions rejected by AVS checks appear as declines in reporting.
Step 11: Review and save
Review all settings and click Save Changes.
Step 12: Test the integration
After saving, run a series of test transactions to confirm the integration is working as expected.
